DSCF0053 Bumpass Creek and East Sulphur Creek converge together into Mill Creek Falls. (At this overlook, G scared everybody by leaning backwards and waving his arm in a circle.)
Continuing on down to one of the two creeks, M went off on her own to explore a meadow while G relaxed on a log and ate potato chips (but we had forgotten the apples!). Here he's trying to get stickers out of one sock. DSCF0062
DSCF0065 Heading back we noticed another trail that led directly to the top of the falls, where the two creeks combined. M and G each stood separately, and briefly, on the rock at the edge. No temptation to fake falling here!
Another picture of bliss... DSCF0066
DSCF0067 It's later in the day and the lighting gets dramatic.
Hard to believe this is California in the Summer. DSCF0068
DSCF0072 Footbridge over West Sulphur Creek.
Monday - broke camp at noon. South on 5, exit at Williams, then west on 20 and south on 16 into Capay Valley.

We parked and ventured down to the river looking for a shady spot. Crossing Bear Creek where it emptied into Cache Creek we hiked a half mile and parted, M to a sandy bank to relax and read her book "Prodigal Summer," and G up the beckoning hill. On the ridge leading to the summit is a terrific view of Cache Creek winding through the gorge.

This summit, with higher peaks Glascock and Fiske (2868) in the distance, could be called Three Corners, because it is exactly where the boundries of Colusa, Lake, and Yolo Counties meet.

G got down almost 2 hours later, shoes and socks saturated with stickies.

DSCF0095 M was waiting in the shade with lots of ants.

G got into the river and was swimming in place then relaxed, swam in place again then allowed the river to float him a little. The current picked up and he tried for the shore, then tried for a rock but it was slippery and couldn't get a grip and so got swept into the rapids. This is where he went under.
